Yarmouth is a quaint town located on the west side of the Isle of Wight. With a lively harbour, cobbled streets, a great selection of pubs and restaurants and even a pier, this small, historic town will offer you plenty of things to do.

We run a ferry service straight into Yarmouth from Lymington in the New Forest, with a beautifully-picturesque sailing that takes just 40 minutes.

Sitting at the mouth of the River Yar, the town is a short drive from the popular holiday destination of Freshwater.

Things to do in Yarmouth

The town may be small, but there’s loads going in Yarmouth. The wooden pier that stretches out into the Solent is an ideal place to start your visit – especially if you’ve just hopped off the Wightlink ferry.

There are a wealth of pubs and places to eat around the pretty town centre and if you venture a little further inland, you’ll find Off The Rails, a unique places to eat and drink set along an old railway line.

Yarmouth Castle

The perfect place to visit if you like mixing history with breathtaking views, Yarmouth Castle was originally built as an artillery fort under Henry VIII’s reign.

One of the former King’s most sophisticated sea defences, step inside for a glimpse of what life was like in the 16th century.

The Needles

The Isle of Wight and The Needles are synonymous with one another.

The iconic white chalk stacks leading up to the Needles Lighthouse are a beautiful sight, but there’s plenty to do in the area, including the world-famous chairlift down to Alum Bay and the National Trust-owned Old Baterry.

There is a mix of hotels, B&Bs and self-catering options within the town of Yarmouth.

Getting there

If you’re on the mainland, by far the easiest way to get to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight is by using our car ferry service from Lymington in the New Forest.

You can travel with your vehicle or as a foot passenger on this route, making it perfect for a day trip visit from the New Forest.
